The pearl from the shelf:
“Nobody is motivated by money…
Nobody is motivated by numbers and green paper.

We are, however, all motivated by what we think these numbers and green paper will give us. We are motivated by how we think money will make us feel. A fat bank account can make us feel successful, powerful, secure, smart or sexy…
An expensive vacation can give us feelings of adventure, freedom, fun, or independence.
A fine suit of clothes may offer confidence, beauty, or self-respect…
Feelings are what we want, but we describe and express them through our choice of personal values – which encompasses a great deal more…
For example, don’t you know someone who exercises habitually? Wouldn’t it make sense to guess that they value health or challenge highly? Isn’t the workaholic motivated by power, self-importance, or by being needed? Isn’t the social butterfly seeking acceptance, fun or personal connection? …
Our values determine our behaviour because we tend to gravitate to those activities that fulfill those feelings we value the highest…
We can now see why we stick with our favorite activities. And more important, we can begin to strengthen and redefine our values in order to change our behaviour almost instantly. Once you broaden your thinking, the things you want will become available to you.
If you want to step up your exercise regimen, you’ll need to increase your value of health or fitness. If you want to improve your time management skills, try increasing your value of effectiveness or being in control. If you want more money, ascribe financial responsibility, freedom, power, security or challenge a higher value…
Instead of feeling good only once you’ve achieved a goal, you get to feel good by fulfilling your highest values each and every day..
Instead of feeling good after you’ve lost that (sic) ten pounds, you get to enjoy any activity that fulfills your value of health. Instead of rejoicing after you’ve made your first million, you get to enjoy the process of any activity that fulfills your value of security.
Instead of punishing ourselves daily, sacrificing for an”outcome”, we learn to enjoy the “process”, which makes us more successful. We continue only those activities we enjoy – those that makes us feel good. Any activity we continue, we tend to master, which ultimately gives us the desired outcome, while being fulfilled in the process.”
Consideration
People sometimes are motivated for a goal that they expect to get in the future and they are willing to face challenges and difficulties now in the present. Those people are admired for most of us, specially when they reach their goals.
Sometimes they are not some lucky and they die or get really sick in that process and never are able to enjoy the sought goal. In those cases some of us will find sense to our lives and will laugh at that “loser” who never enjoyed his life and never got the goal!
Other people decide to enjoy the journey without too much effort. They usually do not fulfill their dreams, and time to time feel frustrated and useless.
However, if we apply the concept delivered in the above excerpt , we will be able to understand our ultimate motivation, the hot button who moves our lives. We will be able to live every single day in alignment with that hot button. Each day will not be a sacrifice that we make for pursuing our goals, but it will be a celebration of our highest values, a joyful expression of our ultimate motivation, which at the same time, will move us closer to our goals!
It will be an amazing way of living!
We will be able of enjoying the process of pursuing our ultimate goals by taking actions aligned with our highest values every single day.

Hello Boris,
I get discouraged very easy when trying to acheive a goal, especially in the area of finances.
I really need to keep forcing myself to keep plugging in work and money matters.
As for fittness, I’m just very interested in it, so it is a pleasure for me to be healthy and I do not look at it as a goal of mine to have to reach. If I can only feel that way about money and working I would be all set.
My hubby always says if I put as much effort into trying to make money like I do my health and fitness, I would be a millionare right now.
Have a wonderful day and I loved this post!!!!!!!!!!!!
Lydia
Dear Lydia,
It is great that you are passionate about health and fitness! A lot of people would love to be able to emulate you…
About making money, we should keep on mind that money is just a means to get something else!
And finally, you might feel about working the same way that you feel about health and fitness. The key point is to work on something that you love…
Have a great day,
Boris
