This cartoon shows a flaw in Honest Abe’s approach.

Keep a green tree in your heart and perhaps a singing bird will come.
- Chinese proverb
If trees could scream, would we be so cavalier about cutting them down?
We might, if they screamed all the time, for no good reason.

I think that I shall never see
A billboard lovely as a tree.
Perhaps, unless the billboards fall,
I’ll never see a tree at all.

Kathy,
I love you enthusiasm commenting

I agree the cartoon does illustrate a flaw in the literal interpretation of Abe’s quote. I do believe the intent of the quote is still valuable. We need to sharpen our axe before swinging and we need to take breaks to sharpen our axe during the process. Preparation and knowing when to rejuvenate are key factors in optimum production.
