The pearl from the shelf:

“…Ali Hafed owned a very large farm, he had orchards, grain-fields, and gardens; he had money at interest, and was a wealthy and contented man. He was contented because he was wealthy, and wealthy because he was contented.

…The old priest told Ali Hafed that if he had one diamond the size of his thumb he could purchase the county, and if he had a mine of diamonds he could place his children upon thrones through the influence of their great wealth…

Ali Hafed heard all about diamonds, how much they were worth, and went to his bed that night a poor man. He had not lost anything, but he was poor because he was discontented, and discontented because he feared he was poor.”

Consideration

The clues are there: He was wealthy because he was content… he was poor because he was discontented…  he was wealthy because he was content… he was discontented because he feared he was poor…

It is true that we are wealthy only if we are contented…

We all have free will, we can decide how we feel about what we have. We can always compare ourselves with those who own diamonds and millions of dollars and then we can decide that we are poor.

Or we can be thankful for the  bread that we ate this morning and for the roof that provided us shelter last night and for our eyes that allow us to see the wonders around us, those eyes that can not be bought with any money…

Our wealth, our health, our happiness depend on how we feel about ourselves.  Let’s ask ourselves why we should be thankful.

And our blessings will become evident:  Let’s be thankful for the beautiful child that love us unconditionally, let’s be thankful for our kind spouse, for our health, for our intelligence, for our values, for our senses, but specially for our freedom to choose: We are allowed to feel contented or miserable and I invite you today to be aware of your blessings and to be content and thankful!

To be thankful is the purest form of prayer. When we compare ourselves to others we often create discontent where there need be none. To be is the richest experience there is. Great post!

    Thanks for your positive feedback.
