Gossip exists because some of us need to feel better by belittling others.

Gossip 1

Gossip 2

The way that works is that if we know that a celebrity say “something stupid”, immediately we feel smarter.

This approach is very wrong because with that kind of thought, we should feel stupid whenever somebody says something smart…Let’s remember that this is a world of abundance and not a “zero sum game”  when the gain for others causes a loss for us.

I found today a collection of  “Stupid Celebrity Quotes” published by MSN Entertainment and I decided to share with you my point of view about it.

For me, some of these quotations are really smart, let’s see why:

Quote 1. On Twitter: “Is there a point? I really mean this because I’ve never been on Twitter and I don’t understand it – I’m not saying that in a negative way, I really don’t understand it. Is there any point at which you say goodnight? Do you actually say, ‘I’m going to bed now?”, Sarah Jessica Parker.

My comment: I would say this is smart comment that would apply to thousands of “tweets” posted through Twitter. There are some exceptions and you will be able to find useful information and applications using Twitter, but a big percentage of the tweets are just a waste of time.

Sarah, your comment is appropriate, keep saying what you think!

Quote 2: ”Wal-mart… Do they, like, make walls there?” Paris Hilton.

My comment: Paris Hilton is a great marketer, she sells herself just because she is Paris Hilton. It doesn’t matter what Paris does, the media talks about her…

It is obvious that Paris know what Walmart does and she is pretending to be dumb in that comment and with this she gets more publicity… I rest my case.

Quote 3: ”I definitely want Brooklyn to be christened, but I don’t know into what religion yet.”, David Beckham.

My comment: There is nothing stupid with this comment. If you think that Catholicism is the only religion you could think so.  This would not mean that David’s comment was stupid, but that you lack some knowledge about religions… You might check here at Wikipedia that other religions such as  Eastern Orthodox and Churches formed early during the “Protestant Reformation” share the “Christening or Baptism” tradition.

Quote 4:“Is this chicken that I have or is this fish? I know it’s tuna but it says chicken by the sea…”, Jessica Simpson.

My comment: She is clarifying that she knows it is tuna, by she is joking about the brand of tuna. Maybe you can say that the joke is not the best, but definitely you can not conclude that her comment is stupid.

Quote 5: ”When you make music or write or create, it’s really your job to have mind-blowing, irresponsible, condomless sex with whatever idea it is you’re writing about at the time.”, Lady Gaga.

My comment:Lady Gaga doesn’t require anybody defending her… She knows how catch the attention of the public and the media. Even the author of the article clarifies that what Lady Gaga said was not dumb.

The purpose of including this quote  is because I wanted to share with you how I see Lady Gaga  as an  example of an authentic person who takes risks and gets free publicity in a continuous basis.

Do you disagree on this?

Do you think that there other reasons celebrities seem to say “dumb things”?

Share your thoughts!
